Breeding Principles

My puppies are only sold to active homes. An Aussie is a working dog and does not function optimally just as a supplement to the perfect household. As you will read below,

I lay all my heart and soul into my beloved dogs and it is by all means not used cars I sell. I only put puppies into the world if I simply cannot resist and just have to make that combination. Therefore is very important to me to know as much as possible about the new home. I do not take orders for a particular color as a good dog does not have a specific color.

I have great respect for the talented breeders who helped me start my breeding with some of their best dogs and hold also great respect for my dogs - especially my bitches that do their "job" as dog moms to perfection. They are not production animals but living individuals with great personalities.

Therefore (without sounding tough) I do not answer mail in which the only text is: "I would like to order a blue merle puppy and what does it cost?". On the contrary I welcome mails with an essay on what you can offer an Aussie and what your dreams are. My buyers are becoming a big part of my Leading Angels family - people that I really appreciate and I enjoy following them and their dogs for many years to come.

Before any mating takes place here at Leading Angel’s, there is a large desk work behind the puppies.

The goal, the dream and the hope for Leading Angel's is making “Versatility" puppies. Versatile puppies are both healthy family dogs and super work dogs, i.e. dogs that can work just as well on an obedience or agility course as they can in a field of sheep’s as herding dogs. The dogs have a look that follows the standard for the Aussie and a breed typical temperament.

My dogs are health checked and found free of diseases before entering into breeding - likewise I have their pedigree checked for possible health pitfalls.

The dogs have been checked hips and found HD free, checked elbows and eyes. Eye Check will be conducted annually to ensure that the dogs are free of eye diseases. Similarly, DNA tests for CEA, PRA, hfs4, MDR1 and PHA are performed.

In addition to their health checks, they are also checked in various tasks for their working abilities, such as obedience, herding, tracking, agility and exhibition. This ensures me that when I need to find two dogs to mate, I also know what I might want to improve not only on their structure, but also on their working abilities. It should not only be health, only be temperament, only appearance or only working properties, but a combination of all things that go up to a higher level.

I have since I started breeding, imported about 10 dogs for my kennel (8 from the US and 2 from Europe). Not everyone has entered into my breeding program for various reasons, but many of them have helped to give myself new blood as well as other breeders new blood.

The puppies are born in my bedroom so that I can hear both the mother and the puppies throughout the night and she has 100% quiet time during the day. A calm mother gives quiet safe puppies. Although they "live" in my bedroom the first weeks of their lives, they are in human hands every day and are being stimulated from "The Puppy Puzzle".

When they are around 3-4 weeks old, the puppies are coming "down" into the heart of the house (my living room). They have to get to know all the household noises, and I should easily be able to follow them all the time, so I can ensure that the individual puppy gets what it needs. Here there are no "stable puppies".

The puppies will be socialized and trained properly, so they are prepared for their new life. This includes that their puppy pen is equipped with lots of activity toys so that they can develop all their senses. Every day the puppy pen is changed such that they are constantly experiencing new things that they has to relate to.

They will be in the hands of children and adults every day thanks to my large circle of friends. Outside I have made a super puppy yard with many natural challenges and many different subject (grass, tiles, pebbles, gravel, tunnel, etc.). Here my summer puppies spend much of the time, My winter litter only visit the puppy yard  5-6 times a day to shorter duration to avoid cold stomachs. The last two to three weeks of their lives here with me they come out on trips - beach, forests, city tours, and puppy play with other puppies. It ensures not only that they have experienced a lot before they move but also ensure that they have tried to drive a few times before they travel. The new owners are often with me and the puppies on those adventures.

The puppies will be raised by both a bitch (their mother) and a male (not necessarily their biological father) until they are 9 weeks when they will be ready to move to their new loving home. This will ensure an optimal puppy dog language, which of course must be supported and maintained by the new family.

The puppies will get their temperament tested through a puppy test. They will be examined on their exterior / building (here I am working with skilled breeders / judges who throw their sharp glance at my puppies) and are of course also herding instinct tested.

This is to find the best possible match between dogs and family.

When the puppies are 8 weeks, each family know which little puppy who will be theirs - for me it is important that the puppy's temperament and working characteristics suited to the family, rather than whether the color match the couch. However - your wishes and dreams for your future Aussies is very important to me. So the more I know what you are looking for and what kind of life you can and will give your Aussie, the easier it is for me to pick the right puppy out for you.

The puppy and the mother will be fed with an absolute quality dog food to ensure the puppies an optimal physical upbringing. During the time they live here, they are checked by a chiropractor 1-2 times, so that I make sure that no puppies have something jammed that could affect their development negatively.

In "puppy package" is included:

  • The puppy has been vet checked and had his vaccines, deworming and have been chipped before departure.

  • A DKK pedigree

  • Puppy food for the first time

  • Bach drops

  • Grants - Herbs and Oils

  • Puppies Folders with important information

  • Free access to Dogplay the rest of the dogs life

When you buy an Aussie at Leading Angels there will always be the chance to get your dog in daycare on site, and what could be more pleasant than to be allowed to care for a dog, you once had in your home as a puppy.

The dog will also be comfortable to be here, as it will remember his breeder and his mother.

Furthermore, help and advise for the grooming will always be available.
